I am quite the JBL fan, and this, in my avid bass hunting sound quality speaker hunter opinion, makes this a bang on competitor. Amazing sound quality and battery performance, materials is high quality to the touch, heavy durable feel, low base sound that fills a room adequately. Dust and waterproof (IP67 rating), tried and tested to the IP67 limits. No scratchy plastics or rattling bits. Vocals are crisp and clear, Bass Mid and Treble frequencies are adjustable via the Sony Music Centre app. Bass is very Low and Punchy, deepest bass I've experienced on a Bluetooth Speaker this size. Aesthetically pleasing look, nothing too bold and very contemporary looking in black, even tho it can be a conversation starter with its lighting feature that can be switched on or off. My biggest and probably only issue is the fact there is no travel hook or loop in the speaker design, so for hiking or walking, it is either hand held or in a backpack.

After trying the XB33, I gotta admit that I was quite surprised. I was used to see mediocre speakers coming from Sony but this one felt different. To begin with, sound was pretty enjoyable but it has its flaws. Highs were quite bad and didn't have so much detail, mids were quite muddy and there was so much bass. The thing is that after using the EQ, I managed to improve the sound of the speaker but it's not the best speaker I heard anyhow. It was enjoyable but not as I would like. Something I liked a lot was that the sound is stereo and that it uses a better audio codec which provided a cleaner sound overall. In terms of the design, I didn't liked it. I found it too simple and its lights didn't help at all. I prefer a design like the XB23 or the Flip 6 (which has a pretty beautiful design tbh). Battery life was great, achieving good numbers after my testing. Price in the other hand was not that great because I found a contender which basically delivers everything I was looking for and it's the Flip 6. It's not only much cheaper but it is also much more comparable to this speaker than the Charge 5. I found the Flip's sound to be richer, with more detail and punch than the Sony's. Because of the Flip 6 existence, I ended up switching to JBL's instead. Not a bad speaker but I found a better choice out there. (Also Anker Motion+ is a good option too).
